Transforming Healthcare in the United States
After a year and half of heated debate over healthcare reform in the United States, the bill finally passed on 21st March 2010. For nearly 100 years there has been talk of healthcare reform, but none actually occurred until now. This bill gives Americans a mix of private and public healthcare options, which have previously never been available. This extends healthcare coverage to an additional 32 million people in the United States. For many people this reform is seen as a blessing and a historic reform, however, polls show about 50 % of Americans are against the bill. Some of those Americans are state representatives and senators who are hoping to come together in support of a motion to repeal the bill. Where the future of the bill stands is unknown, but for now President Obama has achieved success in passing Healthcare Reform.
Growing Number of Students Rejected from Graduate School
As an increasing number of applicants to graduate schools in the United States are receiving rejection letters, it is becoming evident that the economy is to blame for their uncertain future. In 2008 and 2009 almost 5 million workers in the United States were made redundant, while the unemployment rate is still around 10%, leaving many without any job options but a possible time to further their education. Graduate schools across the U.S. have seen application numbers rise significantly over the past few years and many cannot possibly hope to accommodate so many students. University graduates who are hoping for a place in a graduate school are being encouraged to strengthen the weakest points of their application, find entry- level work experience or retake graduation admittance exams, and always apply early.
How Long Until Full Economic Recovery?
Data is showing that the economy in the States has started to grow, but recovery is slow and there are several reasons for this, one of them being a lack of confidence in the economy. Even as there are positive signs for the economy growing, businesses are likely to be slow to hire more employees and consumers will be more likely to save rather than spend. Many households are still paying off debt and attempting to gain back wealth that was lost in the housing bust. Another reason for lack of spending is weak credit as both consumers and businesses usually can’t make large purchases with cash. Recovery in the U.S. economy is also slowed by the ever poor real estate situation. The housing sector makes up 15 percent of economic activity in the U.S. and as recovery in this sector is not likely to happen until 2011 and with foreclosures always on the rise, real estate continues to slow economic recovery. With nearly 15 million Americans unemployed in the U.S., the prospect of income rising seems unlikely to happen anytime soon, which simply creates yet another reason for dismal confidence and significant saving. Many hope that employed Americans will begin to worry less about losing their jobs, which will in turn begin to boost confidence and increase consumer spending. |

New DS-160 Visa Form
Non-immigrant or temporary visa applicants looking to apply for a visa to the United States will have to complete the new DS-160 online form. This will transmit an applicant’s information to the post where he or she is applying for the visa. As the data is transferred electronically and swiftly, the U.S. Embassy in London will be able to begin processing before the full application arrives, which should help to reduce delays that often occur in processing.
H-1B Visa News
H-1B visas are perfect for individuals with a BA degree or above who are looking to work in the U.S. for a job that requires this level of education. H-1B visas have a cap that is reset every year on the 1st of April. The 65,000 H-1B visas do not last long, possibly only a month or two, which is why it is important to apply for them as soon as possible. However if you are an individual looking to work for a non- profit organisation there is no cap on H-1B visas and they are available all year long.
